As someone that grew up in the deep south of Atlanta, GA, my siblings and I struggled to find a place where we felt accepted due to our dual nationalities of African-American, Italian, and even Puerto Rican descent. Being raised Italian while residing in a predominantly black populated area really brought up some polarizing and complex conversations. 

I've found myself always slipping away and being a rebel in my mind at church. Some Sundays you'd hear African Methodist Episcopal churches worshipping a "black" Jesus, and then other Sundays, you'd see Roman Catholic Italian churches worshipping the more common "white" Jesus depiction.  Being mixed race challenged me in a lot of ways, whereas these thoughts either confused me, or tickled me when I was younger.

I was 14 years old when my Italian mother asked me to paint a picture of Jesus, thinking to myself, should I make him white to please her or what? Nevertheless, I think my mother praised what came of my interpretation of Jesus as a mixed race individual.

This piece won 1st place at the PTA Reflections contest in 2010. It will be a staple within my limited edition prints for a while, as the original piece is not listed for sale. Serious inquiries regarding a steeper price for the original piece may be discussed over a collector call. I am limiting these to only 500. Once they are gone, they are gone forever.
